Quebec,
Canada-based Cascades Plastics, Inc., is building a new $7 million,
75,000-square-foot facility in the Warrenton Area Industrial Park
to manufacture polystyrene foam trays for the food industry. When
completed next month, the facility will initially employ 55 workers,
expanding to 125 in the next 36 months. The company plans to double
the size of its facility within the next three years, as well.
The RCGA began recruiting this advanced manufacturing company
nearly two years ago when Senior Vice President of Economic Development
Ronnie Bryant and Manager of Business Recruitment Subash Alias
visited the company headquarters in Montreal. A company vice president
attended the RCGA 1999 Gateway Site Selection Conference. In addition,
company officials made several trips to St. Louis during the recruitment
process. The St. Louis region beat out Kentucky, Tennessee and
Kansas City for this project.
The RCGA, in cooperation with its economic development partners,
the Missouri Department of Economic Development, the Warrenton
Office of Economic Development, and Ameren UE, had been working
closely with Cascades since November 1998. RCGA Director of International/Existing
Business Development Lynda Andrews and our other partners helped
the company evaluate several potential sites for its manufacturing
facility.
Cascades cited the region's central location and the region's
responsiveness as primary reasons for locating its facility in
what marks their entry into the U.S. market. The company also
noted that Warrenton was selected from among several sites, because
it is located in an attainment area for emission controls, as
well as its close proximity to Lambert Airport.
