Edwards Adds One Million Square Feet to Center City Headquarters
A.G.
Edwards & Sons Inc. anticipates growth of an estimated 550 new
jobs at its midtown St. Louis headquarters during its fiscal year
2001. To accommodate the growth, the firm also is building a one-million-square-foot
headquarters expansion, part of which includes a learning center.
The office building will have eight floors and contain 800,000
square feet. The three-floor, 200,000-square-foot learning center
will contain more than 50 training rooms, a 600-seat auditorium,
a multi-purpose room and a studio for the firm’s internal satellite
television network. Completion of construction for these buildings
is scheduled for the second quarter of 2003.
The influx of jobs at A.G. Edwards is believed to be among the
largest increases in local employment reported so far this year
in the bi-state metropolitan area, according to the Missouri Department
of Labor and Industrial Relations. Much of the demand is in the
information technology area to support the efforts of the firm’s
expanding network of more than 6,800 financial consultants in
680 offices nationwide.
Employment at the firm’s St. Louis headquarters has grown 72 percent
over the past five years. The total number of employees at the
downtown headquarters now stands at more than 4,700 employees,
representing an annual payroll of more than $252 million. The
firm also employs about 300 full-time professionals in its 14
branch offices in the St. Louis metropolitan area.
New Radiation Oncology Center in St. Peters to Offer State-of-the-Art
Technology
St. Joseph Oncology Partners, LLC, a partnership between SSM Health
Care-St. Louis and Missouri Cancer Care, PC, received approval
from the Missouri Health Facilities Review Committee for a radiation
oncology center located in St. Peters.
The radiation oncology center features the Varian 21EX linear
accelerator with dual photon and five electron energies that offers
multi-leaf collimation (MLC) and intensity modulation radiation
therapy (IMRT). The technology has been shown to improve long-term
survivability of patients.
“The state-of-the-art radiation oncology center will allow us
to treat patients in a fraction of the time, decreasing the time
from 15 to 20 minutes to six minutes, while simultaneously using
advanced technology that has proven to decrease side effects to
normal tissues,” says Lanis Hall-Daniels, a radiation oncologist.
“3D conformal radiation therapy, MLC and IMRT are all advances
that allow us to treat the tumor to a higher dose and spare normal
tissues. In some tumor sites, such as the prostate, an improvement
in cure rates has been shown.
The radiation oncology center, which is scheduled to open in September
2001, is the only center in St. Louis St. Charles, Warren, Lincoln
and Pike counties to offer the MLC and IMRT.

While our clear preference was to remain in the city, the dictates
of business compelled us to evaluate many locations over our two-and-one-half

says Bob Harrison, vice president of Daniel and Henry, which has
been based in the City of St. Louis since its founding in 1921.
We are delighted that The Highlands made it simple for us to renew
our commitment to the city. It positions us for growth at the

structure, which features green-tinted glass bays, sunscreens,
