THOMPSON NAMED TO MIDWEST REAL ESTATE NEWS’ FORTY OVER FORTY LIST

Tony Thompson, president and CEO of Kwame Building Group, has been named to Midwest Real Estate News’ inaugural Forty Over 40 list for excellence in commercial real estate in the Midwest. Thompson founded Kwame Building Group, a program and construction management firm, in 1991. He has led the firm on such major projects as the Lambert-St. Louis International Airport expansion and the new Busch Stadium. Prior to launching his own firm, Thompson worked as a project engineer for Anheuser-Busch Cos., a mechanical engineer at Monsanto Chemical Co. and a construction engineer for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

THREE ST. LOUIS FIRMS MAKE FORTUNE’S BEST COMPANIES TO WORK FOR LIST

Edward Jones, KPMG LLP, and A.G. Edwards have been included on FORTUNE magazine’s 100 Best Companies to Work For list for 2006. Edward Jones ranked No. 29, KPMG claimed the No. 97 spot, and A.G. Edwards ranked No. 99. This is the tenth appearance on the list for A.G. Edwards and the eighth for Edward Jones.

What makes these companies such great places to work? The magazine noted that Edward Jones “has more U.S. offices (8,955) than Starbucks has cafés. In 2006 the number of limited partnerships was expanded from 4,535 to nearly 12,000, more than a third of employees.” Accounting firm KPMG “more than doubled matching contributions to its 401(k) plan last year (it’s now 75 cents per employee dollar up to five percent of pay) and gave first-ever bonuses to administrative staff.” A.G. Edwards “tries to be more down-to-earth than its Wall Street brethren,” according to the magazine.

The annual list is compiled by the Great Place to Work Institute in San Francisco and is based largely on employee responses to surveys aimed at measuring workplace culture. This year, more than 105,000 employees at 446 companies responded to a 57-question survey. The remainder of a company’s score is derived from an analysis of benefits, compensation, demographic make-up, internal communications, management style and other aspects of corporate culture.
