FIFTY-NINE ST. LOUIS ATTORNEYS NAMED SUPER
LAWYERS
The 2005 Missouri & Kansas Super Lawyers® list includes nearly 60
attorneys from Thompson Coburn LLP, Blackwell Sanders Peper Martin,
Husch & Eppenberger LLC, and Blumenfeld, Kaplan & Sandweiss PC.
Only five percent of Missouri and Kansas attorneys were named to
the overall list, which appeared in the November 2005 issue of Missouri
& Kansas Super Lawyers magazine.
Seventy-four attorneys from Thompson Coburn LLP made the list, including
14 attorneys who were named Top 50 St. Louis Super Lawyers. Blackwell
Sanders Peper Martin had 50 attorneys on the list, including 21
from the St. Louis office. Husch & Eppenberger contributed 31 attorneys
to the list, with 18 from St. Louis. Blumenfeld, Kaplan & Sandweiss
PC posted six attorneys, and one was named a Top 50 St. Louis Super
Lawyer.
The 2005 list is based on surveys of more than 17,000 active lawyers
from Kansas and Missouri. The process for selecting Super Lawyers
combines peer reviews with independent research conducted by Law

THE WORLD’S LARGEST ARCHITECTURE FIRM IS
HOK
According to an annual survey published in London-based Building
Design magazine, HOK is the world’s largest architecture firm.
The 2006 edition of the World Architecture 200 ranked firms based
on the number of fee-earning architects. HOK has 919 architects
worldwide, compared with 809 architects at No. 2 firm Nikken Sekkei
of Japan.
HOK is also ranked (based on fee income) among the top 10 global
firms in the following geographic regions: North America (No. 2),
Middle East (No. 2), Western Europe (No. 6), Central and South America
(No. 5), Central Asia (No. 10) and Australasia (No. 10).
Among market sectors, HOK is one of the 10 largest practices for
sports stadiums (No. 1), business parks (No. 3), government buildings
(No. 3), criminal justice (No. 3), healthcare (No. 4), and transport
(No. 5).
NEWBERRY, WORLD WIDE & TALX RANK IN DELOITTE
TECH FAST 500
The Newberry Group, World Wide Technology Inc. and TALX Corp. have
been named to the prestigious 2005 Deloitte Technology Fast 500,
a ranking of the fastest-growing technology companies in North America.
The rankings are based on percentage revenue growth from 2000 to
2004.
The Newberry Group placed the highest among local firms at No. 225,
with an astounding five-year growth rate of 708 percent. World Wide
Technology Inc. ranked No. 248 with an impressive 639 percent growth
rate. TALX Corp. claimed the No. 383 spot with 344 percent growth.
Qualifying firms must be headquartered within North America with
base-year operating revenues of at least $50,000 and current-year
operating revenues of at least $5 million.
FORTUNE MAGAZINE REVEALS BEST COMPANIES
TO WORK FOR
Edward Jones and A.G. Edwards are ranked among the best employers
in the country, according to FORTUNE magazine’s 100 Best
Companies to Work For list. Edward Jones ranked No. 16 on the 2006
list and earned recognition for its emphasis on continued education.
The firm spends 2.5 percent of payroll on training and offers a
mentoring program that pairs new brokers with veterans for one year,
according to FORTUNE.
A.G. Edwards ranked No. 70 on the list, and was also honored for
its educational programs. The magazine noted that the firm hired
650 financial consultants last year and spent $75,000 to train each
one. A.G. Edwards also offers employees the chance to earn college
credits through in-house classes at A.G. Edwards University.
The magazine evaluated firms based on their corporate cultures and
personnel policies as well as the opinions of their employees.
HOK, THE LAWRENCE GROUP & GRAY DESIGN NAMED
GIANTS OF INTERIOR DESIGN
Two of the Top 100 Interior Design Giants for 2006 are based right
here in St. Louis, according to the January issue of Interior
Design magazine. HOK is the No. 2 firm on the list with $95.8
million in interior design fees, and The Lawrence Group ranked No.
76 with $7.3 million in fees. The survey ranked the 100 largest
firms according to their interior design fees for the 12-month period
ending Dec. 31, 2005.
HOK is also among the top 10 designers in the corporate/office,
government, transportation, healthcare/assisted-living, educational
and technology categories. The Lawrence Group ranked among the top
10 for residential design.
Both firms also made the magazine’s Top 200 Healthcare Giants list
in the November 2005 issue. HOK claimed the No. 8 spot with $8.1
million in healthcare fees. The Lawrence Group ranked No. 25 with
$1.7 million in fees. Gray Design Group, a third St. Louis firm,
ranked No. 39 with $0.6 million in fees. The survey rated firms
according to their healthcare fees from July 2004 to July 2005.
“Recent projects show that this industry is seriously investing
in design as a healing tool,” wrote Kelly Beamon and Wing Leung
in the November issue. “And pulses quickened when we reviewed how
much of the top 200 Giants' total interior-design fees are attributed
to healthcare jobs. In the past two years, the contribution has
grown from 7.6 to 12 percent, a surge of more than 50 percent.”
SIUE, SLU and WASHU FEATURED IN U.S.
NEWS & WORLD REPORT
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Saint Louis University
and Washington University are ranked among the best colleges in
the country according to U.S. News and World Report’s America’s
Best College 2006 Edition.
An integrative learning program for graduating seniors earned SIUE
a spot in the issue. U.S. News also recognized similar programs
developed by Harvard, MIT, Duke, Princeton and the University of
Chicago.
The magazine also ranked SIUE 16th among public universities in
the Midwestern Universities—Master’s category. Overall in the Midwestern
Universities—Master’s category, SIUE ranked 58th out of 142 private
and public institutions.
SLU was recognized as one of the nation’s best values in higher
education, joining other Catholic institutions, including Notre
Dame, Georgetown and Boston College, on the list of the 50 national,
doctoral universities considered best buys by the magazine. In addition,
SLU ranked 78th among the nearly 250 national universities that
offer doctoral programs, Harvard and Princeton topped the list.
SLU was also listed among the top five Catholic Institutions, and
several individual academic departments and undergraduate programs
were given high marks. SLU’s Parks College of Engineering, Aviation
and Technology, and John Cook School of Business were also recognized.
WASHU ranked 11th for undergraduate programs among the nation’s
best 248 national universities. Other rankings for WASHU included
fourth in financial resources, fifth in faculty resources, sixth
in selectivity and ninth in alumni giving. WASHU ranked 10th in
highest proportion of classes under 20 students, 20th in the best
values category, and 17th in graduation and retention.
The Olin School of Business and the School of Applied Sciences were
also included in the magazine for their undergraduate programs.

500 FEATURES SIX LOCAL COMPANIES
A.G. Edwards, Ameren Corp., Enterprise Rent-A-Car Co., Sigma-Aldrich
Co., Express Scripts Inc. and Smurfit-Stone Container Corp. are
among the most innovative users of information technology in the
United States, according to the InformationWeek 500. A.G.
Edwards broke into the top 100 tier at the No. 69 spot.

TECHNOLOGY SOLUTIONS
The Sisters of Mercy Health System has been recognized as a national
leader for innovative technology solutions by InfoWorld magazine,
a national trade publication for information technology professionals.
Mercy is one of only 12 healthcare organizations named on InfoWorld’s
100 Most Innovative Corporate IT Solutions 2005. The list recognizes
information technology projects that demonstrate the most creative
use of cutting- edge technologies and reach beyond typical solutions.
Mercy earned its place on the list for implementing a software management
solution on 16,000 personal computers in approximately two months.
