CONGRESSMAN BLUNT VISITS RCGA

Congressman Roy Blunt

The RCGA was pleased to welcome U.S. House Majority Whip Roy Blunt, R-Mo., to the Collaboration Center on March 19. The congressman was here—along with Johnnie Kaberle, senior policy advisor on his staff—to discuss the region’s efforts on behalf of the New Mississippi River Bridge Project.

Joining Blunt were RCGA Board Chairman Doug Yaeger, chairman, president and CEO of The Laclede Group; RCGA Executive Committee Member Bruce Holland, president of Holland Construction Services, and chair of the RCGA Mississippi River Bridge Committee; RCGA Board Vice Chair for Infrastructure Bob Reynolds, chairman, president and CEO of Graybar Electric, and chair of the Private Sector Infrastructure Council; previous RCGA Board Vice Chair for Infrastructure Barry Beracha, recently retired CEO of Sarah Lee Baking; Illinois and Missouri transportation department engineers Mary Lamie and Ed Hassinger; Forward Metro St. Louis consultant Tony Feather; and staff members from Civic Progress, the Regional Business Council (RBC) and the RCGA.

Blunt’s visit comes at a time when the House of Representatives is finalizing its version of the Federal Transportation Reauthorization Bill. Construction of a new Mississippi River bridge is a top priority for the St. Louis regional business community, and is not only critical to the future of our region, but to the U.S., as well. Without a new bridge in Downtown St. Louis—at the point where four interstate highways converge—experts predict this key national junction will be close to failure in 20 years.
