ST. LOUIS COMPANIES RANK AMONG FORTUNE’S “MOST ADMIRED”
FORTUNE magazine has ranked 11 St. Louis-based companies on
its list of “America’s Most Admired Companies” for 2004. FORTUNE
surveyed 10,000 executives, directors and analysts across the country
to compile the list. Scores were based on innovation, employee talent,
use of corporate assets, social responsibility, quality of management,
financial soundness, long-term investment and quality of products
and services.

Anheuser-Busch Cos. Inc. ranked first overall in quality of products
and services, and the company also placed first in the beverage
industry. Emerson ranked No. 2 in the electronics industry, and
Graybar Electric Co. Inc. was voted No. 2 in its category, “Wholesalers:
Electronics and Office Equipment.”
DRURY INNS NAMED TOP MID-PRICE HOTEL BY
MARKET METRIX
St. Louis-based Drury Inns is the No. 1 mid-price hotel
chain in the country, says the Market Metrix Hospitality Index for
the fourth quarter 2003. Drury Inns has held the top spot in the
mid-price category for three straight quarters.
According to the index, Drury Inns’ customer satisfaction scores
beat four of the six brands in the luxury category, despite selling
rooms at less than half of the reported rate of hotels in that category.
The Market Metrix Hospitality Index is a quarterly
report of customer satisfaction with hotel, airline and car rental
companies based on 35,000 consumer interviews. The report is generated
by Market Metrix LLC, a provider of market research services for
the hospitality industry based.
ENTERPRISE RENT-A-CAR RANKED TOP EMPLOYER
OF COLLEGE GRADS BY THE BLACK COLLEGIAN MAGAZINE
The Black Collegian magazine recently ranked Enterprise Rent-A-Car
No. 1 on its “Top 100 Employers” list for college graduates.
“We applaud the company for its longstanding commitment to providing
opportunities that help jump-start the careers of thousands of college
graduates, as well as for its commitment to being an inclusive workplace,”
said Preston J. Edwards Sr., publisher of the Collegian,
a career and self-development publication that targets black students.
THUNDER AVIATION EARNS DIAMOND AWARD FROM
FAA
For the second consecutive year, the Federal Aviation Administration
(FAA) has awarded Thunder Aviation a Diamond Award for excellence
in maintenance training programs. In order to qualify for a Diamond
Award, a repair station must have at least 25 percent of its employees
participating in the FAA’s Maintenance Technician Training Program.
Eighty-five percent of Thunder Aviation’s eligible employees participated
in the program and received individual awards.
MURPHY CO. NAMED “2004 COMMERCIAL CONTRACTOR
OF THE YEAR” BY CONTRACTING BUSINESS
Murphy Co., a mechanical contracting firm based in St. Louis, was
selected by Contracting Business magazine as its “2004 Commercial
Contractor of the Year.” The firm is featured in a cover story in
the magazine’s January 2004 issue. According to Contracting,
the most impressive thing about Murphy Co. is “the way a $183 million
company can still feel and function like a small, closely-knit family
operation.”
CLAYCO CONSTRUCTION RECEIVEs TILT-UP AWARD
The Tilt-Up Concrete Association awarded Clayco Construction Co.
an Award of Achievement for the 515,000-square-foot CitiMortgage
Office Building and Processing Center in O’Fallon, Mo. The association
presented 22 awards during its 11th annual Achievement Awards Program
in Orlando, Fla., on Feb. 19.
THE LAWRENCE GROUP RANKS AMONG INTERIOR
DESIGN’S “TOP 100 GIANTS”
The Lawrence Group Architects Inc., a St. Louis-based architectural,
interior design and planning firm, earned a spot on the national
“Top 100 Giants” list in the January issue of Interior Design magazine.
The firm was just one of two St. Louis-area companies to receive
the distinction and also made the publication’s “Top 10 in Residential
Design” list.
Recent interior projects of distinction include The Hi-Pointe Lofts
in St. Louis, featured in Better Homes and Gardens; Rudman
on the Park, in St. Louis’s historic Washington Avenue loft district;
and the Enclave at Bellerive, a unique subdivision of homes in St.
Louis’s exclusive Bellerive Country Club.
