EMILY RAUH PULITZER RECEIVES ST. LOUIS AWARD

EMILY RAUH PULITZER
St. Louis Award committee honored her with 2002 award

Citing her “outstanding contributions to the St. Louis arts community,” the St. Louis Award committee named Emily Rauh Pulitzer as recipient of their annual honor for 2002. The award was presented earlier this year.

Pulitzer is the 75th person to receive the award since it was established by philanthropist David Wohl in 1931. Wohl’s vision for the award is for “the resident of metropolitan St. Louis, who during the preceding year, has contributed the most outstanding service for its development…or performed such service as to bring greatest honor to the community.”

With the opening of the Ando-designed Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts, Emily Pulitzer created an institution to serve artists, architects, scholars, students and the general public. The facility not only displays works from the collection she built with her late husband Joseph Pulitzer Jr., but also encourages understanding of the relationship between art and architecture. The stunning design has been lauded nationally and internationally by arts and architectural critics. She is a long-time supporter of the Grand Center and other area arts programs and organizations.
