& Robb Fraley Elected to Chair/Chair-elect of Tech Gateway Alliance
for 2002

New volunteer leadership of the Technology Gateway Alliance for
2002 was recently announced. Dr. Chris Byrnes, Dean of the
School of Engineering and Applied Science at Washington University,
has been re-elected as Chair and RCGA Board Vice Chair for Clusters
and Technology. Internationally-recognized for his more than 25
years of work in systems science, Chris has served as Dean since
1991. A tenured professor at three universities since 1978—Harvard,
Arizona State University and Washington University, Chris received
one of the highest honors in the world an engineer can receive in
1998, the honorary doctor of technology degree from the Swedish
Royal Institute of Technology.

Fraley

Dr. Robb Fraley, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology
Officer, Monsanto Company, has been named Chair-elect of Technology
Gateway. The author of more than 100 publications and patent applications
relating to technical advances in agricultural biotechnology, Robb
leads Monsanto’s integrated crop and seed agribusiness technology
and research programs, with research facilities in virtually all
areas of the world. Robb received the National Medal of Technology
from President Bill Clinton in 1999. Also serving on the
2002 Executive Committee are:
Greg Sullivan, President and Chief Executive Officer of G.A.
Sullivan, founding Chair of the Alliance; and Dr. Bob Calcaterra,
President and Chief Executive Officer of the Nidus Center for Scientific
Enterprise, Marcia Mellitz, President of the Center for Emerging
Technologies, and Dick Fleming, RCGA president & CEO, as
ex-officio Board members.
The following individuals are also serving on the 2002 Executive
Committee and will lead specific focus areas:
- Entrepreneurship
and Technology Transfer Chair: J. Carter Williams,
Program Manager, Chairman’s Innovation Initiative, The
Boeing Company.
- Strategic
Marketing Chair: Brian Handrigan, Director
of Technology Strategy, Marketing Direct.
- Capital
Formation Chair: Mark Lewis, Partner, Gateway
Associates, LLC.
- Plant
and Life Sciences Network Chair: Mary Woodward,
Vice President of Strategic Development, Tripos, Inc.
