THE REGIONAL BUSINESS COUNCIL
INVESTING IN THE REGION
When businessman,
civic leader and philanthropist E. Desmond Lee received the St.
Louis RCGA's Right Arm of St. Louis Award in 1997, he encouraged
the RCGA to reach out to mid-cap companies in the region. The
RCGA Board took his challenge seriously and in January 2000 established
The Regional Business Council. The Council, made up of executives
from major large- to medium-size regional companies, is dedicated
to increasing the number of businesspersons involved in and investing
in regional growth.
Business
Leaders Commit to Role as Catalyst for
Civic Involvement
The Whitaker
Foundation has announced a $100,000 gift to support the activities
of The Regional Business Council through the development of a
Business Engagement Series. The Whitaker Foundation, one of the
25 largest charitable foundations in the region, is dedicated
to increasing the level of civic engagement and philanthropy in
the region. Christie Gray, executive director at the Whitaker
Foundation comments that "All of us are delighted to contribute
seed money to allow The Regional Business Council at the RCGA
to become a catalyst for increased civic involvement and service."
John Capps,
chairman of The Regional Business Council and president of Plaza
Motor Company, remembers his pride "when his father was named
Man of the Year." Accepting the responsibility to continue his
father's civic work, John promised to "step up and be even more
involved in the life of the community. All the members have this
same level of commitment."
Each
month this column will feature some aspect of The Regional Business
Council and their members' involvement in making St. Louis an
even better place in which to live and do business.
